Britain’s greatest athlete became the nation’s first track and field star to win three Olympic golds when outlasting his East African rivals to triumph in 27.05.17.
But this was no straightforward championship win for an athlete who has made winning the world’s biggest races look easy for the last five years.
Not only did he hold off the vest the planet has to offer, he fell to the track after appearing to be tripped, accidentally of course, by his American training partner Galen Rupp.
That would have been that for any other athlete but not mighty Mo.
He picked himself up, Rupp paced him back into the peleton, and from there Farah’s brilliance took over
With two laps to go he was in the lead and although Paul Tanui and Tamirat Tola made a fight of it they had no answer to his kick finish.
“Mo Farah! The man with the plan!!” tweeted Hollywood star Samuel L Jackson. “Got up & handled his Biz!! Righto GB!!”
BBC commentator Steve Cram added: “The manner of his victory was a familiar one, but this takes him into a place where no other British athlete has been.
“It was simply wonderful distance running from Mo Farah.”
